Failed miserably in superhero genre, admits Shahrukh Khan

Failed miserably in superhero genre, admits Shahrukh KhanWEB DESK – The recent speech by Bollywood King Khan at TED Talks, Vancouver is making waves owing for it was not only stuffed with his characteristic humour but in between the one-liners and quips, he brought up something that were not discussed earlier.

While talking about early day, he opened up in the following manner,

"I was born in a refugee colony in the capital city of India, New Delhi. And my father was a freedom fighter. My mother was, well, just a fighter like mothers are. And much like the original homo sapiens, we struggled to survive. When I was in my early 20s, I lost both my parents……………"

Shahrukh also draw an amusing comparison of life with and without technology and the impact that the development brought in our lives,

"…..The internet happened. I was in my late 40s, and I started tweeting like a canary in a birdcage and assuming that, you know, people who peered into my world would admire it for the miracle I believed it to be. But something else awaited me and humanity. You know, we had expected an expansion of ideas and dreams with the enhanced connectivity of the world."

The twenty-minute long speech-a-thon also threw light at some of the aspects of life that people all over the world adore him for. Like he went on to express,

"I m an actor, like I told you, a modern expression of human creativity. The land I come from is the source of inexplicable but very simple spirituality. In its immense generosity, India decided somehow that I, the Muslim son of a broke freedom fighter who accidentally ventured into the business of selling dreams, should become its king of romance, the "Badhshah of Bollywood," the greatest lover the country has ever seen ... with this face. Yeah."

Amidst the laughter and applause, King Khan also admit that he failed miserably in the suit of a superhero.

"You know, I even tried to get into a skintight superhero suit to reinvent myself. I must admit I failed miserably," he added.

Shahrukh Khan also took TED Talk as an opportunity to rubbish the rumours that arose about his third child being the love child of Aryan Khan (his son).

"Four years ago, my lovely wife Gauri and me decided to have a third child. It was claimed on the net that he was the love child of our first child who was 15 years old," Shahrukh revealed.

Gossip: 'Brangelina' back again?

(Web Desk) – US tabloids are abuzz with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt allegedly rekindling their romance as a sources told aceshowbiz.com that they have started seeing each other again.

Khaleej Times quoted US media outlets to report that the power-couple of Hollywood is rumoured to be on way to patch up months after divorce. Reportedly, the two converse over the phone at least once a day and see each other several times a week.

Are they getting back together? No can say for sure but there seems to be ‘something cooking’, definitely.

“It’s like they are now dating again,”a source close to the couple told a media outlet. Jolie had divorced Pitt in 2016 and the couple entered a legal battle over custody of their six adopted children.

It was reported earlier this month that Pitt held his drinking among other reasons causes for the split. He told GQ magazine that he had replaced liquor with frizzy water and cranberry juice in bid to better his drinking habits.

The hotel will convert itself into Bieber’s private villa with three floors of the hotel being booked for the artist and his entourage and one elevator blocked on all 4 full days for Bieber alone. A special Indian Yoga Casket containing aromatic essential oils; jasmine, mogra, rose and camphor incense sticks; and books on chakras and yoga asanas will be placed in Bieber’s suite knowing his love for Yoga.”

This Islamabad eatery is brazenly inspired by Pablo Esco

(Web Desk) – Filthy rich mafia bosses do not inspire television shows and movies but their larger than life depiction leads to potential market for their namesake brands as well.

So is the case with an Islamabad eatery which is named Pablo Escobar, a Columbian narco-terrorist whose cartel supplied around 80 percent of the cocaine smuggled into the United States during his peak days.

Pablo s B.Y.O.B (Build Your Own Burger) lived up to its expectation on its opening day as it was flogged so much so that the administration had to apologise over mismanagement as they had not expected such a huge crowd.

This café in F-11 Markaz of the federal capital has its cash registers ringing from day one and apparently will capitalise further, big time, on the Columbian drug lord theme.

The owner, we assume is a huge fan of Netflix’s Narcos like many of us, right?

Escobar had earlier been immortalised in multiple books and other works of art including films and television shows.

Samsung or Apple, who leads the smartphone market?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Samsung and Apple maintained their leadership in the smartphone market in early 2017 while Chinese-based Huawei s strong growth cemented its number three position, a market tracker said Thursday.

Research firm IDC said overall smartphone shipments grew 4.3 percent in the first quarter, slightly better than its prior forecast, to 347 million units.

"The first quarter smartphone results further prove that the smartphone industry is not dead and that growth still exists," said IDC analyst Ryan Reith.

"There is no question that 2016 was a pivotal year for the industry as growth dipped to low single digits for the first time. However, we believe the industry will show some rebound in 2017, and the strong first quarter results certainly support this argument."

Reith said the 2017 market will feel the impact of the new Samsung Galaxy S8 flagship handset, and a widely expected announcement from Apple for its new iPhone later this year.

According to the survey, Samsung led the market in the first quarter with a 22.8 percent share to 14.9 percent for Apple, with little growth for the top two vendors.

But Huawei s sales jumped 21.7 percent to give it a 9.8 percent share, and fellow Chinese makers Oppo and Vivo, the number four and five vendors, respectively, also boosted their sales.

IDC said the bulk of smartphone growth is likely to come from low-cost handset makers.

"Although we have seen an abundance of premium redesigned flagships that just entered the market, moving forward, we still expect most of the growth to come from more affordable models in a variety of markets," said IDC s Anthony Scarsella.

"Despite all the popularity and media hype around premium devices, we continue to witness a shift in many companies  portfolios geared towards affordable devices with premium-type styling compared to flagship models."

He added that makers "have started to implement a single premium design language that ultimately blurs the lines between the high-end and the low-end, allowing the average consumer to jump on the brand without a hefty upfront investment."

The report is based on preliminary quarterly estimates, with Apple due to report sales figures next week.

Saudi Arabia malls will no longer hire Pakistanis, other foreigners

RIYADH (AFP) - Foreigners, including Pakistanis, will no longer be allowed to work in Saudi Arabia s numerous shopping malls, according to its labour ministry. The decision has been taken to increase employment opportunities for Saudis.

The kingdom has intensified efforts to develop more jobs for its citizens under a wide-ranging drive that began last year to diversify the oil-dependent economy.

Known as Vision 2030, the plan calls for development of non-oil industries, small and medium enterprises, and a broader investment base.

"The Minister of Labour and Social Development issues a decision restricting the work in malls across the kingdom to only Saudi men and women," the ministry said on Twitter.

There were no further details on how or when the plan would be implemented. It is the latest step aimed at boosting local employment in a country where expatriates do everything from cleaning the streets, to waiting on tables and providing management expertise.

About nine million foreigners worked in the kingdom at the end of 2015, according to latest official figures.

Saudis have traditionally preferred jobs in the public sector, where hours are shorter and leave is longer, but the government is trying to cut its payroll.

It has for years offered incentives for companies to employ more Saudis and sanctioned those which did not meet targets.

Under new measures, the monthly fees paid by those who hire more foreign workers than Saudis will be increased, and in July the government plans to impose a levy on foreign workers with dependents, according to a government document seen by Bloomberg News.

In the third quarter of last year the unemployment rate for Saudi females was 34.5 percent, compared with 5.7 percent for Saudi males, figures cited by the firm Jadwa Investment showed.

Modeling stories': Melania wins lawsuits against Daily Mail, Mail Online

(Web Desk) – Melania Trump has won lawsuits against Daily Mail and Mail Online on Wednesday over concocted stories about her modeling days in 1990s.

The first lady of the United States was alleged by the organisation of providing services beyond modeling back in the day and that Donald Trump had met her before the couple claims to have met.

Daily Mail has been ordered to pay £2.4, around $3 million in damages. The organisation had earlier published a retraction in September and has again published a detailed apology.

According to the apology offered by the organisation, Daily Mail questioned the nature of her work on August 20, 2016 and republished allegations against her. The story entailed denial statements of the first lady of the States and the executive of the modeling agency.

The story further wrote that there were no evidence to support the allegations.

Daily Mail had written that Donald Trump met Melania three years before the couple ‘staged’ their meeting to go public with their relation and it was actually a ruse.

“We accept that these allegations about Mrs Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologise to Mrs Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs Trumps two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs,” the apology states.

DJ hosts party at Mount Everest

]
KATHMANDU (AFP) - Top British DJ Paul Oakenfold braved thinning air and freezing temperatures to host the "highest party on earth" at Everest base camp on Tuesday, playing to around 100 climbers -- all in full mountain gear.
The 53-year-old artist, who trekked for 10 days to reach base camp, mixed his beats on a makeshift stone stage set against the spectacular backdrop of the world s highest mountains.
With brightly coloured Tibetan prayer flags fluttering overhead, climbers and trekkers danced as best they could in their heavy hiking boots and thick down jackets.
"It was truly amazing. I feel very lucky to have played here. We did a wonderful event and had people from all over the world. I feel very blessed," Oakenfold told AFP by phone from base camp after the performance.
Base camp lies at an altitude of 5,380 metres (17,600 feet), and around 100 climbers and trekkers were there for the gig.
"It was pretty cool. I ve been here many years but never seen anything like that," 38-year-old American climber Ben Jones told AFP by phone.
The number of trekkers at the camp will swell in the coming weeks as the climbing season gets into full swing.
Hundreds of climbers spend weeks acclimatising to the altitude before attempting to reach the summit during the brief spring window when the weather is at its best.
It was a dramatic departure for Oakenfold, who admitted he was more used to playing the world s top clubs and the beaches of Ibiza and Goa than the mountains of Nepal.
Oakenfold, who had never trekked before, trained for four months before arriving in Nepal, fitting it in between a hectic schedule of late night gigs.
"I m not going to pretend it was easy to get here... but it has been a wonderful trek. If you could see the view I m looking at, it is very inspiring," he told AFP on Monday.
The gig is the first in the record producer s SoundTrek series, aimed at drawing attention to the effects of global warming and raising money for charities.
Oakenfold, whose three-decade long career has included collaborations with Madonna and U2, is also raising funds to help survivors of Nepal s devastating 2015 earthquake, which killed nearly 9,000 people and left thousands homeless.
"I want to support in the rebuilding and to shed light on the environment... I would like to do my bit," he said.

Yasra Rizvi slams criticism for marrying man younger than her

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Renowned actress Yasra Rizvi has slammed the criticism on her by certain people on social media for marrying a man younger than her in age. Rizvi is 34 years of age right now while her husband Abdul Hadi is 24-year-old.

Yasra was brutally criticised by a certain segment of the social media that has a problem with almost everything happening on Earth. The self-righteous Facebook surfers criticised Yasra just for marrying a man ten years younger than her.

In a video message on Facebook, Yasra said that her marriage with Abdul Hadi had kicked off a new debate on the social media. She said that while there were many people on Facebook and other social media platforms who appreciated their marriage, there were others as well who were criticising the couple for their age difference.

She said that the debate raised questions like where did the religious or social opinions stood on the age difference between the married couple. She said that she was also criticised for demanding a Fajr prayer from her husband as Haq Mehr as some thought she was doing it to seem different than others.

In a befitting response to these detractors, Yasra said that she was proud of being different and didn’t feel the need to look like others. She said that every person was different than the other. “I’m a person who impresses very few people so if I want to have a Fajr prayer offered as Haq Mehr, it was nobody’s business. Is criticism is all we know?” Yasra said.

Flashback: Aamir Khan's Controversial Relationships

(Web desk) .Aamir Khan became a huge star with his college romance Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The world crooned ‘Papa kehte hai’ from the movie but few knew that one of the girls seen cheering in the crowd was Aamir’s wife Reena. Yes, he had been married when he made his debut in films but had not announced his marriage.

In fact, the Aamir-Reena love story was straight out of a Hindi film. They were madly in love with each other and had married in secret primarily because their parents were not happy with this relationship. He was just 21 when they had a registered marriage in 1986 but the duo continued to live in their respective homes. It was Reena’s sister who reportedly grew suspicious and Aamir and Reena finally spoke to their families. Reena’s parents were totally against the union but Aamir’s father warmed up. Eventually, Reena got very close to Aamir’s family even as Aamir’s popularity soared in Bollywood. The couple was together for about 16 years and had two children, Junaid and Ira. Much later on, when Aamir finally opened up about Reena in his interviews he said he was drawn to her sense of humour which matched his naughtiness. Speaking to a magazine he said, “She and I knew each other from the time she was 18 and I was 20. So we kind of grew up together.”

Aamir and ex wife, Reena

Unfortunately, this relationship was not meant to last. As the years passed, their marriage took a turn for the worse. Aamir’s many link-ups (with stars like Pooja Bhatt and Mamta Kulkarni to name a few) did not help matters either. An even stronger blow to this relationship was Aamir’s reported involvement with a British journalist, Jessica Hines, with whom he allegedly also had a son. Finally, in 2002, the couple filed for divorce. Aamir and Reena however, were very dignified about their separation; there was no public hue and cry. Aamir was undergoing a stressful time and was seen away from the screens during that time. The only public statement on their marriage was made in the divorce petition which stated, ‘Irreconcilable differences arose between the two on account of temperamental differences, making it impossible for them to live together.’

But love was waiting to strike again. The actor was working on his first production, Lagaan, where he met director Ashotosh Gowariker’s bright assistant director, Kiran Rao. Kiran was very new to the industry but Aamir described her as the best assistant director he had ever met. The two started meeting frequently and Aamir was ready for love again. Speaking about her to a newspaper he was quoted as saying, “She came into my life when I was going through my worst phase personally, and thing

Junaid and Ira Khan with their mother

The couple lived together for about a year-and-a-half. When they started living in Aamir made sure that he told his kids Junaid and Ira about Kiran and his equation with her. Kiran too shared a bond with them and it was only a matter of time before this relationship was made permanent. Aamir and Kiran eventually married in December 2005. Not wanting to make it a very public affair, they took off for Aamir’s bungalow in Panchgani where they had the wedding ceremony. Only family and a few select friends were invited and the festivities continued over a weekend of fun and even a cricket match!

Needless to say, this bond was not without speculation and controversy. There was intense speculation about Aamir settling for someone who was so distant from the industry. Kiran had revealed how she never thought their paths would cross like this. Before she got to know him closely, she knew of him as ‘one of the few good actors in the industry’. She had said, “Even the fact that he is a perfectionist and all; I genuinely didn’t know any of this, until I met him and got to know him.” When she received an offer to work with Aamir’s production house she was intrigued at the idea of being a part of his film. She knew that they would hardly interact but love had other plans! His down to earth nature minus the starry tantrums impressed her. She confessed, “I felt like “Oh... this is someone I really want to spend more time with and this is someone I want to know better’. But I fell in love with him quite early... a couple of months spending time intimately with him, I was hooked.” The couple now has a son, Azad, who was born through the IVR (in-vitro fertilisation) method in December 2011.

Aamir and wife Kiran Ralo with their son

The interveining year saw a gradual change in the equation between Aamir and his two families. Gradually, the bitterness of the divorce with Reena ebbed and the two households started interacting with one another. Perhaps time was the healer or maybe it was because of Kiran’s efforts to bond with his first family but Aamir began to share a very cordial relationship with his ex wife and children. The bond Reena and he share is one of healthy respect and friendship. In one of his interviews Aamir said that the three most respected women in his life are his mother, his ex-wife, Reena Dutta and his present wife, Kiran Rao. He is also quite open about the relationship Reena and he share and how much it means to him.

To quote him from an interview, “I really value the 16 years Reena and I spent together. I have the highest respect and love for her. I will always have that.” Another time he said, “She has immense strength of character and patience. She is a valuable part of my life. Our relationship may have altered, but nothing and no one can take away what we have shared.”

Reena, on her part, is quite friendly with Kiran and attends all the family functions. The three children have bonded as well, depicting the maturity with which things have been handled in this family. Aamir sometimes goes out to dinner with Reena and his kids. While it may not have been the prefect ending, none of the three involved – Aamir, Reena and Kiran – hold any grudges or bitterness.

Slovenian firm brings tombstones to life with digital content

A firm in Slovenia is giving tombstones a 21st-century makeover, with 48-inch interactive screens that can show pictures, video and other digital content.

The Pobrezje cemetery on the outskirts of Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city, recently set up a prototype of a weatherproof and vandal-proof digital tombstone that can interact with visitors.

At first glance, it looks like any other but standing in front of it for a few seconds activates its sensors and brings it to life, turning it into an interactive screen capable of playing just about any kind of digital content.

“This tombstone makes it possible to put anything next to the deceased person’s name and surname, you can write an entire novel if you like. You can put pictures, or a film there,” Saso Radovanovic, head of the company Bioenergija which sells the tombstones, told foreign media.

“The tombstone has a sensor so that when nobody is around it only shows the person’s name and the years of their birth and death… This saves energy and the screen itself, and helps extend the tombstone’s lifetime,” he added.

The tombstone was developed with the help of Milan Zorman, a professor of computing at the University of Maribor who said that they are working on a special smartphone application, which will further increase the tombstone’s interactivity.

“We intend to bring the sound to earphones connected to a mobile phone running the app. That way visitors would be able to listen to videos displayed on the screen,” said Zorman, adding that speakers would be too loud for the cemetery.

The cemetery claims the 48-inch-screen version they put up is the first digital tombstone in the world. Radovanovic said they have already received a few orders for the product which costs 3,000 euros ($3,189).
